PlayStation 2 Comes to Life in the LEGO Universe: A Tribute to the Best-Selling Console in History
The iconic PlayStation 2, originally released in 2000 by Sony Computer Entertainment, is back – but this time in LEGO form. A passionate gamer and creative builder decided to pay tribute to the best-selling console of all time with a detailed recreation that is sure to captivate fans of all ages.
A Console That Made History
The PlayStation 2 remains a milestone in video game history, holding the title of the best-selling console until July 2024. With the ability to play both PlayStation and PlayStation 2 discs and functioning as an accessible DVD player, the PS2 quickly won over millions of homes worldwide. This success was largely due to its versatility and vast library of games.
A New Life in LEGO
Inspired by nostalgic memories and the success of LEGO sets related to video games, the creator of this LEGO version of the PlayStation 2 focused on faithfully replicating the details of the original model. The project includes 2,111 pieces and is almost life-size (1:1) to the classic version of the console.
Impressive Model Details
The LEGO model not only captures the external appearance of the PS2 but also includes unique features:
Open Disc Tray: The disc tray can be opened, revealing a movable reading lens that simulates the real functioning of the console.
Detailed Memory Slots: The memory card slots' covers are removable, allowing for LEGO memory cards to be inserted.
Controller with Easter Egg: The controller, also recreated in LEGO, can be connected to the console. Inside it, there is a representation of the seven orbs from the iconic PS2 menu.
Internal Exploration: The top of the console can be removed, exposing its internal components, which are recreated in intricate detail.
A Tribute to Nostalgia
According to the creator, this project is a tribute to the console that marked his childhood and remains his all-time favorite. "The PlayStation 2 had a huge impact on the world of video games, and this model is a way to celebrate its history. I believe it would be an excellent LEGO set for gamers and for anyone who has fond memories of the PS2."
A Possible Official Future
The project was submitted to LEGO Ideas, where fans can support its official production. If it reaches 10,000 supporters, it will be evaluated by LEGO and could become an official set.
With this creative tribute, the PlayStation 2 is gaining a new life – this time, in the hands of LEGO builders and video game fans worldwide.
